Gwanda State University has commissioned new farming equipment, a development that will boost the agricultural sector of the University.

Speaking during the commissioning of the University tractor and its accessories, the Vice-Chancellor Professor Doreen Zandile Moyo stressed that the equipment came at the right time when the University needed it most.

“As institutions of higher and tertiary education, we are supposed to support the Education 5.0 mantra which emphasises that Universities should be industrious”, said the Vice-Chancellor.

She added that, the University has an Agro-Innovation Hub and Industrial Park as well as a farm at Insingadele. This equipment will go a long way in boosting food production not only for the University but for the province and the nation at large hence ensuring food security.

The Vice-Chancellor alluded that this initiative will also contribute towards attaining a prosperous and empowered upper middle income society by 2030.

She also added that this development will also equip students with practical skills in their areas of study which is the main thrust of education 5.0 mantra
