GSU department of Research, Innovation and Industrialisation in conjunction with the Library department held a grant writing training workshop designed to equip academics with the knowledge, skills, and techniques necessary to write compelling grant proposals.
Officiating the workshop, the Vice-Chancellor Professor DZ Moyo highlighted that there was need for research grants to keep research institutions running.
“With the ever-dwindling University research funding, research grants are the lifeline for many researchers and institutions. Benefits also include purchase of specialised equipment and funding of postgraduate student research. Grant writing might appear to be a daunting task, but with practice and diligence, it can be done”, the Vice-Chancellor said.
GSU staff members applauded the department of Research, Innovation and Industrialisation and the Library Department for organising the auspicious occasion.
Reiterating the sentiments of the staff, the Vice-Chancellor said that “the training workshop will equip participants with knowledge and skills to develop successful grant proposals, ultimately benefiting research and development in the University. At the end of this workshop and many more that are to come, each one of you should be able to plan, design and write grant proposals on your own or as a team”.
The Vice-Chancellor emphasised on the importance of research grant acquisition in improving the University’s academic research profile.
“Gwanda State University has had a few success stories and it is my fervent hope that by the end of year, more success would be recorded. Competition for these grants is very tight, hence the importance of training on all aspects of grant proposal. Successful grant proposals have a clear focus and are tailored to the funder”
