1. DEPARTMENT OF MINING ENGINEERING

This program in Mining Engineering focuses on developing human capital that is well able to sustainably extract mineral resources through knowledge, skills, and competences relevant to various entrepreneurial and employment possibilities in Zimbabwe, regional mining economies of Africa and internationally. The program provides students with the knowledge necessary to enter a variety of segments of the mining industry in one or more of the following areas: mine engineering, operations management, extraction or processing, base metals, precious metals, industrial minerals, quarry industry, explosives industry, construction or demolition, mining equipment suppliers and mining/geotechnical consulting firms.
The program is hinged on the Zimbabwe’s envisaged multi-billion mining economy in support of the National Development Strategies. The program therefore focuses on design of mines, develop new technologies, and create mining equipment in order to efficiently and safely extract minerals.

Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Mining Engineering (4 Years)

Normal Entry:
Passed at least 5 subjects at Ordinary Level including Mathematics, English Language and a relevant Science subject.
Passed at least 2 advanced Level passes in Mathematics and Physics.

Special Entry
For admission though special entry the candidate should have:
Passed at least 5 subjects at Ordinary Level including Mathematics, English Language and a relevant Science subject.
Obtained a national Diploma in Mining or equivalent with a minimum of two years post qualification experience.
Candidates who apply for admission under this regulation may be required to attend interviews and/or special tests at the university to determine their suitability for admission to the Bachelor’s degree studies.
