2. DEPARTMENT OF CROP SCIENCE

Crops products are the major food sources for Zimbabweans and crop and crop by-products are used as livestock feed. However, successful crop production in arid and semi-arid regions of the country is limited by poor and/or irregular rains. The degree programme offered in this Department focuses on crops that do well under such environments but at the same time will cover crops that can be grown under irrigation. The degree introduces students to the science of crop production and as such the first three semesters are mainly courses that give necessary background and principles for the advancement of efficient crop production and improved food quality and safety. Students are to be exposed, through practical training, to rain-fed and irrigated crop production.
