4th Annual General Meeting

Gwanda State University successfully held its 4th Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development Headquarters in Harare.

The meeting was held in compliance with the Public Entities Corporate
Governance Act, Chapter [10:31].

Speaking on behalf of the Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development Dr F. Shava, the Deputy Minister Honourable Simelisizwe Sibanda commended the University for successfully holding the 4th Annual General Meeting.

“Gwanda State University is a highly regarded and upcoming institution and the holding of the 4th AGM is a culmination of good work”, the Minister said.

The Minister also made reference to the thriving  Agro-Innovation Hub and Industrial Park projects such as cattle, layers and farming projects he witnessed during his familiarisation visit at Epoch Mine Campus. He indicated that he was exceedingly delighted on their progress and pledged to fund the projects in the road map.

The Minister also exhibited enthusiasim on the University’s efforts to implement one of the Education 5.0 pillars which is innovation.

“The Ministry is enthused by the innovation projects which were exhibited by the institution at the 2nd edition of Presidential Innovation Fair in 2024 particularly the haybaler in the process of commercialisation and transformer bushings in the process of patenting. These achievements are a testament to the University’s determination to drive rural industrialisation and attaining sustainable economic development”, alluded the Minister.

The Minister added that these achievements were to further policy direction declared by His Excellency, The President President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, when he declared year 2025 the year of commercialisation.

The Minister also applauded the University for the completion of the Engineering Laboratory and Innovation Complex and the Agro-Innovation Complex superstructures.

“We will avail funds for the resources so that the two structures are equipped and ready for commissioning by the Chancellor on the 7th of November 2025”, said the Minister.

The Minister also took the opportunity to strengthen it’s stance towards the construction of the Gwanda Town campus.

“I take note that Epoch Mine has reached its carrying capacity hence the need to avail requisite resources for the construction of Gwanda Town Campus”, added the Minister.

He also underscored that the Ministry was facilitating the procurement of a new bus for the University.

The Minister also commended the GSU Council, Vice-Chancellor, Management, Staff, Students and other stakeholders for their sterling job in building Gwanda State University.

Amongst the stakeholders who attended the meeting were the line Ministry, Auditor General, Accountant General, Zimbabwe Council of Higher Education (ZIMCHE), Corporate Governance Unit and Chairperson for Portfolio in Higher Education.
