Gwanda State University, like any world university is one of the hubs for national skills development. In her quest to contribute to the national manpower development Gwanda State University does not only focus on cognitive and psycho- motor skills but also focuses on life/social skills in order to meet job market and societal expectations.
Gwanda State University through the Division of Student Affairs gives equal attention to life-skill development, particularly soft skills on its student development mandate. The Division is therefore focusing on social educational activities that are guide by the Gwanda State University Strategic Plan, the tenants of Education 5.0, Job Market expectations, Community/Social expectations as well as the students right enshrined in the Gwanda State University Act 25;30. Thus the Division’s activities are driven by a student-centred approach as well environmental expectations responsiveness.
This student-centred approach is basically a holistic approach that seeks to achieve a total and integral development of the whole person. In an effort to meet all stakeholder expectations on the demand for not only hard skills and subject content but also life/social skills we have reconfigured our curriculum, teaching and learning methods to include life/social skills development. The main focus, among others, is on student innovativeness, effectiveness, empathy, compassion, multi-culturalism and multi-spiritualism, communication skills, leadership, integrity, honesty, excellence and transparency. UBUNTU/HUNHU coupled with total knowledge are the ultimate goals for the Division.
