Gwanda State University (GSU) Strengthens Community Engagement Through Book Donation

Gwanda State University (GSU) donated an array of books to several institutions in Insiza District, Matabeleland South Province, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening education and supporting community development. The book donation initiative took place on the 26th and 27th of November 2025. The beneficiaries of this initiative included Filabusi High School, Dekezi High School, Siwazi High School, Filabusi District Hospital, Marvel Primary School, Filabusi Government Primary School, and Filabusi Prison.

The donation forms part of the University’s ongoing community engagement efforts aimed at promoting access to knowledge, improving literacy, and fostering lifelong learning in communities surrounding the institution. As part of its broader mandate, GSU is dedicated to establishing and reviving libraries in various institutions to ensure that learners, patients, inmates, and staff have access to essential information resources.

Representatives from the receiving institutions expressed deep gratitude to GSU, noting that the materials will greatly enhance teaching, learning, and access to information. They also highlighted their eagerness to continue collaborating with the University on future initiatives that uplift and empower the community.

A series of career guidance sessions were also conducted at the schools, and students benefited significantly from the initiative as it enhanced their learning experiences and supported their career advancement.

Through such outreach programmes, Gwanda State University continues to demonstrate that its impact extends beyond academia, contributing meaningfully to the development and well-being of communities in Matabeleland South and beyond.
