Gwanda State University has two (2) campuses. The main campus is located at the 87 acres of land in Gwanda town along Bulawayo-Beitbridge Highway. The other campus is located at Epoch Mine in Filabusi where teaching and learning is currently taking place.
The University started off in 2015 as a College of the National University of Science and Technology (NUST). It was established through an Act of parliament (Chapter 25:30) in 2016. The University was established in keeping with the government policy of having a state university in each province. In line with the natural endowments of its geographical location, the University’s mandate is “specialisation in animal and veterinary sciences, irrigation engineering and management, mining engineering, environmental engineering and ecosystems restoration” given its location in Matabeleland South.
