  • Academic Vacancies

    DEPARTMENT OF CROP SCIENCE

    POST  1: LECTURER CROP SCIENCE (1 POSITION)

    LECTURER/SENIOR LECTURER/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR/FULL PROFESSOR

    Applicants must be holders of a BSc (Hons) in Crop Science and at least an MSc in Crop Science. Candidates must be able to lecture at least 3 of the following courses per semester; Mechanisation of Agriculture, Wild Plant Resources Management, Crop Products Processing, Crop Breeding and Biotechnology. Evidence of scholarly contribution in at least two (2) refereed journals would be an added advantage. He/she is also expected to have strong research skills which will enhance and complement the department’s existing research strength. The applicant should have teaching experience at higher and tertiary level.

    DEPARTMENT OF ANIMAL SCIENCE

     POST 1: ANIMAL BREEDING AND GENETICS

    LECTURER/SENIOR LECTURER/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR/FULL PROFESSOR (1 POST)

    Applicants must have a BSc (Hons) and an MSc Animal Science Degrees. Possession of a PhD in Animal Breeding and Genetics will be an added advantage. Successful applicants must be able to teach a minimum of three of the following courses per semester; Cell Biology and Genetics, Animal Breeding and Genetics, Agricultural Microbiology and Animal Physiology. Evidence of scholarly contribution in at least two (2) refereed journals would be an added advantage. He/she is also expected to have strong research skills which will enhance and complement the department’s existing research strength. The applicant should have teaching experience at higher and tertiary level.  

    DEPARTMENT OF GEOMATICS AND SURVEYING

    POST 1: LECTURER/ SENIOR LECTURER/ ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR/FULL PROFESSOR (3 POST)

    Applicants must have a BSc (Hons) and an MSc Degree in Surveying or Geomatics and Surveying. Candidates in possession of a PhD in Surveying or Geomatics and Surveying will be at an added advantage.  Evidence of scholarly contribution in at least two (2) refereed journals would be an added advantage. He/she is also expected to have strong research skills which will enhance and complement the department’s existing research strength. The applicant should have teaching experience at higher and tertiary level.

     

    ENGINEERING INSTRUCTOR (1 POST)

    Applicants must have a BSc (Hons) with at least 2.2 Degree class in Surveying and/or Geomatics and Surveying. The candidate must have a minimum of three (3) years’ experience in field work. He/she will be responsible for guiding students in practical and field work in land survey and mine survey. Membership of relevant associations will be an added advantage.

     

     

    DEPARTMENT OF METALLURGICAL ENGINEERING  

    POST 1: LECTURER/SENIOR LECTURER/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR/FULL PROFESSOR (3 POSITIONS)

    Applicants must have at least a BSc (Hons) Degree and an MSc Degree in any of the following; Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, Minerals Engineering, Materials Engineering or Chemistry. Possession of a PhD will be an added advantage. Applicants must be capable of teaching at least three (3) of the following courses: Hydrometallurgy, Pyrometallurgy, Physical Metallurgy, Materials Technology, Process Engineering, Process Mineralogy, Process Control and/or Minerals Engineering. The applicant should have experience in guiding students in research. Evidence of scholarly contribution in at least two (2) refereed journals would be an added advantage. He/she is also expected to have strong research skills which will enhance and complement the department’s existing research strength. The applicant should have teaching experience at higher and tertiary level.  

    ENGINEERING INSTRUCTOR (1 POSITION)

    Applicants must be holders of at least a BSc (Hons) with at least 2.2 Degree class in Metallurgical Engineering. The candidate must have three (3) years experience working in a metallurgical industry and/or mining educational institution as the position requires an applicant capable of assisting students with the practical component of their study. The applicant must be able to assist lecturers in the following practical courses offered by the department; Practical Metallurgy (Labs), Computer Applications in Metallurgy, Workshop Practice and any other practical components of other courses.

     

    DEPARTMENT OF MINING ENGINEERING

    LECTURER/SENIOR LECTURER/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR/FULL PROFESSOR (3 POSTS)

    The applicants must have BSc (Hons) and MSc Degrees in Mining Engineering. Possession of a PhD Degree is an added advantage. The candidates must be able to teach at least three courses per semester from the following (Excavation Engineering, Ore Dressing and Extraction, Engineering Fluid Mechanics, Surveying for Engineers, Mining Methods, Mining Laboratories, Computer Applications In Mining, Technical Valuation, Mine Transportation, Safety, Health and Environment in Mining, Atmospheric Environmental Control and Mining, Computerised Mine Design, Mine graphics and Design, Mine Management). Evidence of scholarly contribution in at least two (2) refereed journals would be an added advantage. He/she is also expected to have strong research skills which will enhance and complement the department’s existing research strength. The applicant should have teaching experience at higher and tertiary level.

     

  • Non-Academic Vacancies

     

    1. WATER AND SEWERAGE TECHNICIAN / TECHNOLOGIST

     

    REQUIREMENTS

    • A minimum of HND in Civil / Water Engineering or Technology
    • B-Tech or BSc in Civil / Water Engineering or Technology will be an added advantage
    • A minimum of two years’ experience in the field of water resources provision is a must
    • Knowledge and practice of the following would be advantageous:
    1. Water and sewer software / applications in water related field.
    2. Solar pumping system for household and irrigation water supplies and waste water management.
    3. Borehole siting and maintenance.

     

    JOB DESCRIPTION

    • Determination of water and sewer projects details, specifications, testing and evaluation for safety and cleanliness.
    • Drawing out cost estimates and BOQs for water and sewer supply systems such as water and sewer / ponds treatment plants and irrigation.
    • Ability to sample, inspect and test water quality and use suitability from source to distribution for safe consumption and compliance standards.
    • Detection and monitoring of non-revenue water and rapid remedial works to restore supplies and effluent to normalcy.
    • Operations and maintenance to pump station and water works for water treatment, storage and distribution.
    • Developing plans and estimating costs for installation and maintenance of systems and facilities
    • Any assigned duties by the university.

     

    1. ELECTRICAL TECHNICIAN

     

    REQUIREMENTS

    • A minimum of HND in Electrical Engineering or Technology.
    • BSc or B-Tech in Electrical Engineering will be an added advantage.
    • A minimum of two years’ experience in the field of electrical works is a must.
    • Knowledge and practice of the following would be advantageous:
    1. Computing software / applications in electrical systems.
    2. Operations and maintenance of electrical substations, generators and solar systems for household and industrial consumption.
    3. Technical information gathering, report writing techniques and record keeping.

     

     

    JOB DESCRIPTION

    This post requires someone with high mental alertness and physical aptitude.

    • Drawing out cost estimates and BOQs for electrical materials and sundry.
    • Determination of projects electrical detailing, specifications and materials from drawings.
    • Performance of regular inspections of the electrical works on site and comparing completed workwith drawings and specifications.
    • Accounting for work done and works in progress for payments and certification for contractors on site in liaison with Clerk of Works.
    • Developing new plans and estimating costs for new installations and maintenance of systems and facilities.
    • Attention to electrical emergencies and faults and
    • Any assigned duties by the university.

     

     

    1. CLERK OF WORKS

     

    REQUIREMENTS

    • A minimum of a HND in Quantity Surveying.
    • BSc degree programme in Quantity Surveying, Property Development and Estate Management, Architecture and Construction Engineering or Technology will be an advantage.
    • A minimum of five years’ experience in the field of construction projects is a must.
    • Knowledge of the following would be advantageous:
    1. Property development, valuation and management.
    2. Practice of relevant computing software / applications in construction related field.
    3. Technical information gathering, report writing techniques and record keeping.

     

    JOB DESCRIPTION

    1. Internal Audit Assistant

         

    Role & purpose of the job

    Reporting to the Internal Audit Manager - assists in the conduct of audits to support the implementation and execution of the Annual Audit Plan, a principal role in the day to day execution of internal audits. Contribute to the Internal Audit function by identifying risks associated with university objectives and evaluating the controls in place to mitigate those risks in order to improve the effectiveness of risk management, control, and governance processes.

    Primary duties and responsibilities

    Under the direct supervision and overall guidance of the Internal Audit Manager, the Internal Audit Assistant will perform the following primary duties:

    • Evaluate the university’s operating controls and policies, financial reporting mechanisms, adherence to regulatory guidelines and key business indicators through participating in risk-based audits.
    • Provide value-added advice and support to the university on the creation or modification of policies, procedures, processes, products or services to ensure an appropriate level of internal control and compliance is maintained.
    • Evaluate the adequacy of process design and the effectiveness of controls in meeting university business needs and mitigate risks.
    • Assist in the conduct of follow-ups reviews of audited units to gauge progress in remediation.
    • Prepare and /or contribute to the preparation of work plans (including risk assessment) and audit programs for assurance and/or consulting engagements.
    • Obtain required information directly or indirectly through examination of records and /or interviews with staff.
    • Develop and prepare informative working papers adequately documenting work performed and prepare audit assignment files for review by the Internal Audit Manager.
    • Performing other related tasks assigned by the Internal Audit Manager

    Knowledge, experience & skills

    • BCom (Hons) Degree in Auditing, Accounting, Information Systems or Business degree.
    • Three years work experience preferably in a University setting is a must.
    • IT skills and knowledge of accounting packages is a must.
    • Critical thinker with strong analytical and meticulous attention to detail.
    • Must have proven documentation and technical report writing skills.
    • Possess a high level of professionalism and integrity.
    • Good interpersonal skills at all levels of staff and management.

     

    1. Purchasing Officer (1 Post)

    The applicant must be a holder of a Bachelor’s degree in Purchasing and Supply Chain Management or equivalent.  A Graduate Diploma in Purchasing and Supply would be an added advantage.  A minimum of two years relevant working experience is required.  Good organisational and record keeping skills and a sound knowledge of procurement procedures in Public Enterprises are a must. 

    Duties and Responsibilities

    The successful candidate will be responsible mainly for the following, among other duties:

    • Distributing tender documents to prospective bidders.
    • Facilitating the submission of bidding documents by bidders.
    • Keeping records of tenders.
    • Attending to queries and communication between the Procurement Unit and clients.
    • Preparation of the procurement plan of the institution.

     

    1. Receptionist/ Secretary

     

    Registrar’s Department

     

    A minimum of a National Diploma in Secretarial Studies, or equivalent.  Computer literacy is a must.  In addition, the candidates must be of mature disposition with initiative, be able to work with minimum supervision, and be proficient in English and local languages.

    2 years post qualification experience would be an added advantage.

     

    1. SYSTEMS MANAGER (1 POST)

    Applicants must have a BSc.(Hons) Degree in Computer Science and an MSc in Computer Science or Information Systems. Certifications in Java, CCNA, Server management are a requirement. In addition the applicants must be able to convey technical information to technical and non-technical staff and must have at least three years post qualification experience.

     Duties will include server management and support tasks, including routine monitoring, troubleshooting and related user support activities. Develop and maintain systems for the University. The applicant will be required to coordinate infrastructure support activities; maintain access to confidential information; interpret and apply university connectivity, implement security and accessibility procedures and authorize user sign-ons and passwords.

     

    1. ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT (1 POST)

    Applicants must have a first degree in a business related discipline, social sciences or related field from a recognised institution. Applicants should also have at least 1 year post qualification administrative experience, ability to work with minimum supervision, knowledge of computer packages such as Microsoft packages and good organisational skills are essential.

     

    1. INFORMATION AND PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICER (1 POST)

     Requirements

    Applicants must have the following

    • A degree in Media Studies, Marketing or related Behavioural Sciences,
    • A Post Graduate Qualification and/or Membership with a relevant, Association or Institute (e. g Institute of Public Relations or Marketing) will be advantageous.

    Experience

    • At least 2 years experience in any of the following areas;
    • public relations,
    • marketing,
    • fundraising,
    • events promotion and
    • journalism

     Duties and Responsibilities

    • Planning publicity strategies and campaigns,
    • Writing and producing presentations and press releases,
    • Dealing with enquiries from the public, press and related organisations,
    • Organising and attending promotional events such as press conferences, open days, tours, exhibitions and visits with the view to market the University.

     

    1. QUALITY ASSURANCE OFFICER (1 POST)

     Qualifications

    • A degree in Business Studies, Marketing or Related Social Science,
    • Membership with a Quality Assurance Association or Institute will be advantageous.

     Experience

    • At least two years experience working in a quality assurance related area.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Develop university quality policies, procedures, standards and specifications and ensure their consistent application across the whole institution,
    • Act as the catalyst for change and improvement in performance and quality,
    • Assessing the requirements of the University’s customers and setting up the necessary service standards,
    • Ensure that the whole University complies with the quality standards set up by the Regulatory Bodies such as the Zimbabwe Council for Higher Education (ZIMCHE).
